Girls or boys who go to Caliente are subject to the state system, and they are released on "parole" rather than "probation."
Linguistic Note:
If you live in Lincoln County (as we have), Caliente is
pronounced "cali-enny", not "cali-en-TAY," which is how
most outsiders pronounce it.
We have tried our best to impress the proper pronounciation
on Family Court personnel, but without much success.
It is like the difference between "Ne-VAD-ah" (local)
and "Nev-AH-dah" (outsider). The "correct" pronunciation,
in our view, is the local one.
