This is an unofficial compendium of information on the courtrooms of the Family Division of the Eighth Judicial District Court (Las Vegas, Nevada). All information is tentative, and we encourage your additions and corrections.

Upstairs, South Side (left)

Courtroom 1: Doninger/Henry — The courtroom for all Temporary Protective Orders (TPO), tried by one of two hired Hearing Masters: Patricia Doninger and Jennifer Henry. Also used one day a week for (child?) guardianship hearings with Donninger and on Wednesday for adult guardianships with Hearing Master Jon Norheim.

♣♠ Courtroom 11: Hardcastle — Hardcastle is the elected judge with overall responsibility for all abuse/neglect and foster case cases. He personally handles all cases from the DFS Central unit, all Fast Track infant cases, all Termination of Parental Rights (TPR) proceedings, and all foster care reviews. Special Public Defender Jane Femiano often appears in this courtroom. (SPD's Dolente and Simpkins also appear here for foster care cases.)

Foster care reviews for the various DFS units are scheduled on a four-week cycle, with each unit having one or two days in court during that period, accompanied by their assigned D.A.s. [3/13/06]

Courtroom 14: Gibson — Gibson, a hired Hearing Master, handles all intakes and management of abuse/neglect cases for the North and South units of DFS. Special Public Defender Quintin Dolente often appears in this courtroom.

Courtroom 15: Sullivan — Sullivan, a hired Hearing Master, handles all intakes and management of abuse/neglect cases for the East and West units of DFS. Special Public Defender Melinda Simpkins often appears in this courtroom.

Courtroom 17: Compan — The courtroom for misdemeanors and relatively "mild" felonies for juveniles with last names N-Z.

Courtroom 18: Voy — The courtroom for "hard" juvenile crime. Voy, an elected judge, handles most serious juvenile felonies, Juvenile Sex Offenses (JSO) and all "certifications," where a youth is referred to adult court for some serious crime (such as murder). He may also review or affirm decisions made by his two Hearing Masters.
